Autumn table decoration.

Autumn Table Decoration.

Having seen photos of the Autumn Garland by Attic 24 I was inspired to make an autumnal table decoration. The nights are now drawing in and lighting a candle of an evening seems much more comforting now.I used Attic 24’s leaves, acorn and berries patterns, which were very easy to follow. For the bulk of the leaves etc I usedStylecraft Special DK.

Then for the burst of colour I went to my stash of Yarn and Colours darling Must Have Minis. These are so handy and being so affordable you can pop a couple in your basket without spending a fortune and then build up a good selection of colours for the times when they are needed.

For the pattern of the pumpkin I used Yarnspirations pattern but changed the yarn for a Must Have Minis. and used a size 3mm hook. I followed the pattern for the small pumpkin…… at the end of row 6 it reads repeat 5 more times but I only did 4 more rows. Teak was used for the stalk.

As you can see from the photo above I made a pumpkin and 2 berries from 1 ball of Must Have Minis, with just a tiny length left, no wastage there!!

Now onto the toadstools and mushrooms, for this I followed this knitting pattern once you are on the Woodland Creatures site you need to click on the arrows till the picture of the toadstools come up.

I like the fact there is a mix of knitting and crochet but if you prefer to crochet your fungi there are many free patterns available. For the toadstools I usedLipstick and Parchment, I tried white but I found it was too stark with the red.

Most of the berries were made with the Must Have Minis, knitting pattern">Fiery Orange works really well.

Now the fun part, assembling all the individual parts;

Just for reference I made 6 oak leaves, 8 beech leaves, 5 acorns and 10 berries.

For the joining up of all the leaves etc I decided to use DROPS Flora Brown and hook size 3mm as I felt using the D.K. would be a little bulky. I made 7 or 8 chain between each clump of leaves etc and every so often made 6/8 chain and then went back through these stitches with a single crochet in each and this added little twisted twiggy bits.

When I was finishing off the ends and arranging the finished piece around the candle I realised that using Drops Flora was rather appropriate as Flora in the dictionary reads ….” The whole vegetation of a country “!
