To Make Up

Attach safety eyes, these were placed 6sts from the center of the head and 9sts from the top and 9sts from the neck.

As a little extra precaution I like to add a small circle of felt to the back of the eye before adding the plastic stopper.

Then fold in half lengthwise and sew the back seam.

Next flatten the body so the back seam is in the middle and sew up the top of the head.

Turn inside out and attach some yarn ready to sew the ears.

Lightly stuff the head and sew across the corners to form the ears.

Now stuff down to just beyond the neck and on the last row of the head with some of the same colour yarn add some running stitches to gather the head into the neck.

Now stuff the remaining body, not too firmly as you will need to add some stitching. Once stuffed sew up the bottom at the feet.

From the middle of the feet stitch up to the 3rd or 4th row of the shorts to form his legs.

Then stitch from the shoulders down to the start of the shorts to form the arms. Then it is just the nose and mouth to be embroidered on.

Everyone has their own way of embroidering features but I started in the center of the eyes and 1row down and came down with my thread for 4 or 5 stitches. Then stitched in the nose and finished with the smiling mouth.

The making up of the girl bear is very much the same. I sewed the skirt seam before sewing the back seam and the dividing of the legs stopped at the start of the underskirt.

Now you can add little extras if you fancy like a scarf for the boy and a bow on the head or a bead necklace for the girl. The rest is down to your imagination!!
